Variance designed and created a complex, highly durable chamber system for the subterranean mole rats of East Africa– one of the only mammal species that exhibit the highest level of social organization (known as “eusociality”). Naked mole rats are known to live for over thirty years and spend their entire lives digging and burrowing underground.  This exhibit’s warmly lit system of realistic tunnels and chambers provides a glimpse into the fascinating lives of these rarely seen animals.
