As part of the Wildlife Explorers Basecamp, Variance Design created a multi-exhibit immersive experience that reveals the complex life of bees. We designed and fabricated a custom enclosure featuring two “top bar” style hives, equipped with angled mirrors that allow viewers a glimpse at the internal structure and activity of a living bee colony. 

Variance Design also created a massively scaled-up sculpture of a honey bee hive, consisting of five unique suspended honeycomb sections that cover 900 square feet. Each section is hand-carved, hand-painted, and internally lit. Ten custom made, accurately scaled honey bee sculptures were also included to populate the hive.
